PayU terminates $4.7 billion acquisition deal to buy BillDesk

PayU secured CCI approval on 5 September 2022. However, certain conditions precedent were not fulfilled by the 30 September 2022 long stop date, and the agreement has terminated automatically in accordance with its terms.

The deal was announced a year ago by Prosus, the parent company of PayU Payments, on August 31, 2021 and had brought the company’s total investment in India to $10 billion.

Google India removes over 5,50,000 contents to comply with IT rules

Google has received 37,282 complaints from Indian users in the month of August in compliance with the new IT Rules, 2021.

The overall complaints Google received in India consist of categories including infringement of intellectual property rights and violation of local laws prohibiting types of content on grounds such as defamation.

Crypto exchange WazirX reduces headcounts by 40%

A total of 50 to 70 employees of the 150 workers at the exchange were asked to go. The workforce has been cut from several departments including customer support, HR, and other departments.

The laid-off employees were informed on Friday that they would be paid for 45 days and that they would no longer be needed to report for work.

Tesla delivered 343,830 vehicles in Q3FY22; 160,000 cars have Full Self Driving beta

Tesla says the Model S and X made up 18,672 of its quarterly deliveries, while the Model 3 and Y accounted for 325,158. Tesla made a total of 365,923 cars during the quarter, leaving about 20,000 cars in its inventory.

The company announced that 160,000 Tesla drivers now have access to its Full Self Driving beta, the driver-assist software that’s currently the centre of two lawsuits.

U.S. Coinbase customers faced ‘Major Outage’ on Sunday morning

Coinbase account holders with U.S. bank accounts found themselves unable to conduct transactions on Sunday morning. Its support page classified the issue with U.S. bank accounts as a “Major Outage.”

Coinbase later released a statement assuring its account holders that their “funds are safe,” adding it will provide further information when functionality resumes.

Apple is testing Touch ID for newer iPhones

Mark Gurman says that Apple has tested in-screen Touch ID for the iPhone and has also considered adding Touch ID to the power button, similar to the iPad Air and iPad mini.

However, even though Apple has tested both of these things, Gurman believes it’s unlikely either will see the light of day “at least anytime in the foreseeable future.”

TikTok plans to launch live shopping for US consumers this holiday season

TikTok Shop will reportedly be launched in North America “over the next month with large brands” to take advantage of holiday shopping.

The underlying technology will supposedly be provided by the US company TalkShopLive, which will also support livestreams hosted by influencers and brands. The agreements are still under discussion and no contracts have been signed.

10% of global electricity demand served by wind, solar energy for first time

Power generation emissions in general leapt up in 2021 as the global economy rebounded from the COVID-19 pandemic. Much of that new power generation came from renewable sources, with wind and solar accounting for three-quarters of capacity added in 2021.

Still, coal continues to occupy the largest single share of global electricity generation at 27%, and it may continue to rise in 2022.

Nokia and Vodafone are jointly working on 6G network

This will take the form of joint resource investment in technology validation, demos and field trials for use cases in areas including network slicing, private networks, industrial automation, and AI.

With an overall camera score of 146, it earned second place in DxOMark’s global camera ranking (just one point behind the Honor Magic4 Ultimate).

In addition to ranking second overall, DxOMark also recognizes the iPhone 14 Pro to have the best selfie camera performance scores in stills and video with a score of 145.

13 cities to get 5G services in the first phase of rollout; Check the full list

5G services made debut in India on Saturday, Oct 1.  However, at first, the services will be available only in 13 cities, but this does not mean the entire city can access the high-speed network.

These cities are – Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamnagar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Pune.


Useless meetings waste time and $100 million a year for big companies

Unnecessary meetings are a $100 million mistake at big companies, according to a new survey that shows workers probably don’t need to be in nearly a third of the appointments they attend.

Data from Microsoft Corp. based on thousands of users of its workplace software found that time spent in meetings has more than tripled since February 2020, and the number of weekly meetings has more than doubled.
